Barnes Auto Service was founded on June 1, 1982, by Chuck Barnes Sr., a skilled mechanic with a passion for cars and a dedication to helping his neighbors. Starting in a one-car garage, Chuck Sr. built a reputation for quality, integrity, and personal service, treating every customer like family.
As the business grew, so did the Barnes family’s love for motorsports. Chuck Sr. became a respected stock car racer, and his time on the track influenced his approach to the shop: precision, performance, and attention to detail became the standard.
Racing Roots, Real-World Results
Today, that legacy continues with Chuck Barnes Jr., a second-generation mechanic and accomplished racer. Raised in the family shop and around racecars, Chuck Jr. brings the same competitive spirit and commitment to excellence into every repair.
As an ARCA Menards Series winner and former mechanic for Richard Petty, Chuck Jr. uses his experience in racing to elevate the shop’s diagnostic skills and mechanical expertise. “Our racing experience helps clarify what we represent at our shop,” he says.
By racing their own vehicles, the Barnes family has gained unique insights into vehicle performance, durability, and diagnostics—insights that directly benefit their customers every day.
Our story began on June 1, 1982, when Chuck Barnes Sr., a skilled technician with years of dealership experience, took a leap of faith and opened his shop after countless hours of turning wrenches in his home garage. With the support of his wife and a fierce passion for serving his neighbors, he rented a small building, launched Barnes Auto Service, and laid the foundation for generations to come.
But Chuck Sr. wasn’t just a business owner. He was a respected stock car racer, too. His knowledge of performance and durability from the track translated directly into the shop. His obsession with accuracy, reliability, and mechanical excellence continues to shape how we do business today.
